When Harriet Wermer's dad unexpectedly sends her to her nanu's bed and breakfast on Marble Island for summer vacation, she's upset that he made the decision without her and took her away from all her special summer plans. Once on Marble Island, however, Harriet discovers that the place is full of surprises and even a mystery. One that seems to involve her dad, back when he was a young boy living on Marble Island.
