Description
Description
Chaldon is a young English landowner, philosopher and adventurer. After ruining himself in the London stock market and falsifying bills of exchange, he has ended up in a prison in Amsterdam. A businessman from the all-powerful Dutch East India Company then offers him a deal: freedom and a hefty financial compensation in return for a coffee plant. It is a delicate mission that can cost you the neck ... And that is that Europe has become addicted to that exotic brew. Traders, bourgeois, students, scholars and nobles gather in the cafes of major capitals for a cup while they exchange business information, comment on the latest discoveries and scientific breakthroughs, or debate new political and social ideas. However, no one but the Turks can trade it. Whoever approaches the crops they have in the Arabian peninsula is punished by death.
